Professional Development Workshop
This high-energy workshop shows you how to use short films and videos to improve children’s work in the classroom! You’ll learn strategies and techniques to awaken children’s interest in learning, stimulate critical thinking, and improve performance on Standardized Tests.
CPDUs will be issued to participating teachers. The 3-hour class will cover:
- Introduction to the basics of media literacy – the “right way” to watch movies and TV for educational outcomes.
- Specific exercises for using media most effectively in the classroom.
- Activities that use media to teach sequence, summary, fact vs. opinion and other skills needed for standardized testing.
- Media-based activities to stimulate students’ reading, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
These workshops are offered exclusively by the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival, and are free to Chicago Public School teachers.
